RIVCAS STUDENTS JUBILATE

RIVCAS STUDENTS JUBILATE AS THE INSTITUTION IS RENAMED PORT HARCOURT POLYTECHNIC

The date is 1st July, 2016. The news has just filtered in that RIVCAS has been renamed Port Harcourt Polytechnic sequel to the passage by the Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA) of the Port Harcourt Polytechnic Bill into Law. The Students Union Government (SUG) declared a party throughout the day. The students were very jubilant and they danced to the latest music in town. It was a very exciting scene to watch as the students did their thing in their own way. In fact, some members of staff joined them. Free booze flowed as they danced to the rhythmic music of Duncan Mighty’s “Port Harcourt Boy”.

It would be recalled that the students had thronged the RVHA for the Public Hearing on Monday, 27th June, 2016. The students had arrived the venue as early as 7:30am in two luxurious buses. They conducted themselves peacefully throughout the session. In their various presentations the leadership of the various unions applauded the State Government for this fit.

Comrade Daniel Ichendu, the SUG President had argued that the bill will settle once and for all the identity crisis the students and graduates of the institution had had to put up with among their counterparts. He further added that the Port Harcourt Polytechnic will give more youths the opportunity to advance their career rather than engage in activities detrimental to the peace and progress of the state.

The same sentiments were expressed by the leadership of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Comrade Barango-Tariah. He said that the renaming of RIVCAS to Port Harcourt Polytechnic will open more frontiers for Rivers youths to access higher education rather than roam the streets. He expressed optimism that the polytechnic possesses the requisite manpower to discharge the new mandate. He therefore called for the speedy passage of the bill into Law.

The students are therefore releasing 3 “gboza” for his Excellency Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for actualizing their dream of Harcourt Polytechnic.
